Menopause and Perimenopause Care

Perimenopause and menopause are major life transitions that affect sleep, mood, energy, metabolism, bone and cardiovascular health, and sexual health and function. Timely, individualized support can improve quality of life, reduce symptoms, and address short and long term health risks.

Approximately 1.3 million women in the U.S. enter menopause each year. Clinical surveys of women across the country show that 60% of women seek clinical help for their menopause symptoms, but over 75% of women go untreated and are overlooked by their healthcare providers.

At our practice, our team provides a comprehensive and individualized approach to your menopause journey and builds a plan collaboratively with you that fits your life, goals, and values. Our model allows for longer visits, faster access, and continuity so we can observe changes over time and adjust care proactively.

What is the difference between Perimenopause and Menopause?

Perimenopause is the transitional phase leading up to menopause when hormone levels, especially estrogen and progesterone, begin to fluctuate. These fluctuations in reproductive hormones can cause a variety of symptoms that impact daily life and function. Some of the symptoms include, but are not limited to menstrual cycle irregularities, hot flashes/vasomotor changes, mood changes, irritability, sleep disturbances, brain fog, weight gain, bloating, joint pain, or changes in sexual libido. These symptoms can last months to years causing significant distress.

Menopause is officially reached when a person has gone 12 consecutive months without a menstrual period. At this point the ovaries have mostly stopped releasing eggs and estrogen levels remain consistently suppressed. The average age of menopause in the U.S. is 51 years old, but some people experience symptoms as early as 40. While some symptoms may ease after menopause, others such as vaginal dryness and decreasing bone density, may continue or increase.

What Our Team Offers

Comprehensive Assessment

In a 60 minute visit, Dr. Taskier reviews your perimenopause and menopause journey performing a comprehensive history and physical examination. The initial evaluation will include routine blood tests to not only test your appropriate hormone levels, but investigate other factors that may contribute to your menopausal transition. These blood tests should be covered by your insurance. Once your lab results are back, Dr. Taskier will create a customized treatment recommendation and discuss this with you in-person or online at a follow up visit.

Symptom Management

We assess and treat hot flashes, night sweats, sleep disruption, mood changes, brain fog, joint pains, urinary symptoms, and more. Management blends lifestyle, behavioral strategies, integrative therapies (acupuncture, OMM, pelvic floor physical therapy, craniosacral therapy, among others) and medical treatments.

Individualized hormone therapy (HT)

For patients who may benefit, we offer evidence-informed options for systemic and local (vaginal) estrogen and combined therapies. In some cases, Dr. Taskier may recommend bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) in your treatment plan. We review risks and benefits in the context of your health history, family history, and personal preferences, and provide close monitoring and dose adjustments.

Non-hormonal alternatives

If HT isn’t right for you, we provide effective non-hormonal options — medications for hot flashes, therapies for mood and sleep, pelvic floor rehabilitation, and topical/local treatments for vaginal symptoms. Our goal is symptom relief with the safest, most acceptable approach for you.

Sexual health assessment & care

We address changes in libido, arousal, pain with intercourse, and vaginal dryness with a sensitive, thorough evaluation. Treatments range from pelvic floor therapy and topical lubricants/moisturizers to local hormone therapy, and counseling/referrals as needed.

Personalized treatment plan

Every plan is tailored — not one-size-fits-all. We set measurable goals, create follow-up schedules, and coordinate with specialists (gynecology, endocrinology, pelvic floor therapy, mental health) when needed.

Education & empowerment

We provide plain-language education about the stages of menopause, expected symptoms, health risks (bone, heart), contraception considerations, and lifestyle strategies (nutrition, exercise, sleep, stress reduction). You leave visits informed and confident to manage this stage.
